Loykrathong Festival

Loykrathong also sometimes called "Yee Ping" means festival of lights in Thailand. Loykrathong is held on the full moon of 12th month in the traditional Thai Lunar Calendar (usually in Western calendar falls in November).
"Loy" means to float and "Krathong" is a raft about a hand span in diameter, traditionally made from a section of banana tree trunk (although in modern-day versions use specially made bread 'flowers' and styrofoam), decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, flowers, candles, incense sticks and etc.

This year the Loykratong Festival at Wat Pikulthong falls on 1st, 2nd and 3rd November, with the 2nd being the full moon day of the twelfth lunar month. Kelantan also has the same celebration, especially in Tumpat area. The ministry of tourism recognizes it as an attraction for tourist. I went there with my papa and cousins. Many people visit this celebration.

The Loykratong ritual is simple one. One needs only to light the candles and the joss sticks, make wishes and let it float away with the current of a river or a canal. On that day thousands of people will gather beside the river. With krathong in hands, we light the candle, put some coins in the krathong and silently make a wish and carefully place our krathong on the water surface to release in to the current. We watch intently as the float drifts silently downsteam, hoping that the candle will not go out. Its flame is said to signify longevity, fulfillment of wishes and release from sins. Altogether it is considered a romantic night for couples or lovers. Couple who make a wish together on Loykrathong a thought to stay together in the future.
Hu..hu.., my krathong candle's light gone out after i released it to float on the river. Is it mean my wishes will never come true??? Make me sad...
